LGBTQIA+ Welcoming Congregation

What does being a Welcoming Congregation mean?
Piedmont UU was certified on April 5, 2008 as a Welcoming Congregation by the national UU Association, the culmination of many hours of work on educating ourselves and working to be sure we were radically inclusive and that members of the LGBTQIA+ community were full members of our congregation. Since the work of radical inclusion never ends, on Jan. 31, 2022, we applied for the most recent renewal of our Welcoming Congregational status, showing that we were still being intentional about inclusion and continually educating ourselves on issues facing the LGBTQIA+ community. We encourage members to take advantage of some of the resources provided by the UUA’s LGBTQ+ Ministries as well.
Our LGBTQIA+ Rainbow group is just the latest piece added to our commitment to being a place of radical inclusion for those in the LGBTQIA+ community and their families and friends. As a group we help plan Piedmont UU’s participation in PRIDE events in both Charlotte and Salisbury, educational and fellowship opportunities, and coordinate Welcoming Congregation activities. If you want to be involved with the Rainbow group, please email rainbow@puuc.org.
