Our Annual Giving Campaign and Membership Renewal

Our Annual Giving Campaign and Membership Renewal

Soon, our Generosity Team will be revealing our theme for this year’s giving campaign! We will kick off the campaign with a Gala on September 7th at the University Gathering. Stay tuned for more information coming soon.

Formerly referred to as Annual Commitment Time at Piedmont UU Church, there are many terms used to describe this yearly practice of budgeting and preparing for the year ahead in various churches. Some of those include the following:

Pledge Campaign. Commitment Campaign. Stewardship Campaign. Annual Operating Fund Drive. Membership Renewal and Pledge Campaign. Membership Renewal and Commitment. Sustained Giving.

One of the things we noticed in our research this year was a trend in coupling membership renewal with pledge campaigns, and this made good sense as it simplifies two related processes. Each year, the Unitarian Universalist Association asks us for several pieces of information such as current number of members, budget, and annual giving. Part of the information is used to determine our annual responsibility to the association.

Typically, the church sends out yearly reminders about the bylaws requiring an annual pledge to maintain membership; however, we also stress that an inability to pledge a certain amount will never be a hindrance to membership. A waiver of the financial commitment is always available to those who are experiencing a financial hardship, and this will not impede one’s ability to enter into or remain within the covenant of membership.

This year, when you receive your pledge form, it will also serve as a membership renewal form and a way to update your email, phone number, or mailing address. We will ask everyone to respond so that our records are as accurate as possible.

We ask that you join us in being excited about the possibilities ahead (and about our giving campaign!). The future is what we make of it, and now we have the opportunity to shape 2020 in ways that will help our ministry and our souls flourish.

Blessed be!
