Letter From the Ministers
Dear Members, Visitors, and Friends,
The month of May has announced itself with bright sunshine, flower blossoms, new life, new love, and possibilities. Piedmont UU Church is frolicking in the warmth of it all.
As the weather warms and Covid cases steady, we’re more apt to relax some points of view. However, Covid still exists and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. We’re going to need to learn to live with it, like ticks and mosquitoes. Annoying and yet oh so important to keep ourselves safe from while still getting outside and enjoying the blessings of all that surrounds us. And we are blessed with a month full of opportunities to gather in person or online. We encourage you to check them out below.
Most importantly right now—It’s time to vote in our local elections and the possibilities are abundant. Rock The Vote and Campus Election Engagement Project says, “It is a common myth that important elections only take place every 2 or 4 years. Local elections often take place every year, and because turnout is lower, your vote can actually make even more of a difference.” “Nevertheless, local elections are just as important as national elections, because they decide so many things that will affect us in our daily lives. From public transit to school quality, the list can go on and on, even down to how clean the water is when you brush your teeth every day,”(More Than Just a Mayor: The Importance of Voting Local Elections; Serena Sherwood; August 2021). Keep imagining the more equitable world that we want to create.
May the Fourth (Force) be with us all.
Shakeisha and Michelle, Co-ministers
