A Letter from Your Minister
Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart.
Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.
Welcome to September and our monthly theme of VISION!
This is an exciting month as we usher in AND complete our Annual Commitment Time (also known as pledging). I’m excited to report that we’ve received our first two pledges of the year with the first one coming from an attendee of the Salisbury Gathering!
With only two pledges, we are $10,000 closer to our goals for 2019 which will be determined by our individual and collective visions for ourselves and our Beloved Community.
In her poem called “Turning to One Another,” Margaret Wheatley writes: “There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” May this be true for us.
Wheatley admonishes the reader to focus on possibilities, and that’s what I’m asking of you this month. Consider what it is that you care about, and move in the direction of whatever that is. Consider or reconsider your visions for yourself as an individual and a seeker in your own personal life. Are you living into who you are? Are you living into who you want to be?
And then consider your vision for Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church. Do you envision more programming? Can you picture a Memorial Garden on our grounds? Do you hope for more Religious Education offerings for both children and adults? Are you committed to The Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism and to our community’s passion to nurture the spirit, cherish diversity, cultivate justice, and radiate love? Do you see us as a beacon for the surrounding community?
What do you want this community to look like in one year, five years, ten years?
Some of you have been members of this body for three decades. Some of you are brand new. Together, we fashion the future. May we do so with open hearts and a spirit of tremendous generosity as we move forward from a place of abundance and possibilities.
Walk in love, and blessings on your journey!
