Our theme for May is CURIOSITY. The poet e.e. Cummings stated that “once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”
Part of nurturing our spirits involves risking curiosity and exposing ourselves to wonder. In recent conversations with some of you, I was privileged to hear stories about your arrival at Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church–or your arrival to this liberal religion in general.
What an honor witness aspects of your personal journeys!
In hearing the stories of several individuals, I was struck by the amount of courage it takes at times to simply “risk curiosity.” I think e.e. Cummings was aware of this; thus, his comment about believing in ourselves.
How are you doing with that? With believing in yourself? Do you have the courage to step out in faith to explore a question or to set out on an adventure? What would that look like for you?
To those of you for whom walking through the doors of Piedmont involved risk and fortitude, thank you so much. To those who have come to Piedmont after experiencing trauma in other religious paradigms, thank you for making yourself vulnerable, for being courageous, and for trusting this beloved community enough to enter in.
May the words of the poet be true for each of you.
Believe in Yourself!
Blessings on Your Journey,
